Celadon City is one of the larger cities situated in Kanto, joining up Route 7 and Route 16 together. Many big buildings can be found here, and it has the largest department store in Kanto, selling a number of goods that are not found in Pokémart of other cites. There is also a small pond in the middle of the city for encountering wild Pokémon through fishing or surfing.
In addition to the unique department store, Celadon City also features the one and only Rocket Game Corner in Kanto. Underneath the exterior is the Rocket Hideout, hidden in the basement. Players will have to enter the hideout to defeat Giovanni for the item Silph Scope, which is needed to proceed through the game.
Erika, the gym leader of Celadon Gym who uses mainly Grass-type Pokémon, resides in this city as well, giving Rainbow Badge to players after her defeat. It allows players to go into Saffron City as the guards will have disappeared. To enter the gym, a Pokémon that has learnt the HM Cut should be brought along so as to cut down the small tree blocking the path.
