Trees like this one can be cleared using HM Cut
Cut is a move that clears the annoying trees blocking certain pathways.
Obtaining HM Cut
You get the HM from the captain of the SS Anne, details below
- Reach Cerulean City and win against the Cerulean Gym.
- Head north and battle your way past the trainers on the (nugget) bridge. When you reach the top of the bridge, go east until you reach a building. Inside that building, talk to Bill and he will give you the SS Anne Ticket.
- Go South from Cerulean City, head through the underground path to Vermilion City. The SS Anne is docked on the southern edge of Vermilion City.
- Navigate through the ship and find the Captain. Rub his back ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) and he'll give you the HM.
- Press spacebar on a cuttable tree to use it. (you don't have to teach it to a pokemon)
