Viridian Gym is the eighth and final gym in Kanto where a player needs to challenge, and it is located in Viridian City. This gym specializes in using Ground-type Pokémon, with its leader none other than the Team Rocket Boss, Giovanni, whom the players had defeated twice earlier on in Rocket Hideout and Silph Co.
Viridian Gym will only be unlocked when all 7 gym badges of Kanto are collected. Spin tiles (arrows on the floor tiles that lead you to the direction shown once you step on that tile) are present but these are not activated in the game so they can be treated as normal floor tiles instead. There are also no trainers in the gym, meaning that the player may walk straight to the gym leader, Giovanni.
Upon Giovanni's defeat, players will earned themselves the Earth Badge, which allows entrance into Pokémon League Reception Gate in Route 22. Players will then be able to proceed for battle against the Elite Four of Kanto region.
